Legal Advisory Services
The central legal arm of the Federal Government of Pakistan
The Law & Justice Division of Pakistan functions as the principal legal authority of the Federal Government, providing constitutional and legal guidance on matters of national importance. As a core organ of the State, the Division ensures that governance, legislation, and executive actions remain fully aligned with the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, while strengthening democratic institutions and the rule of law.
The Division delivers comprehensive legal advisory services to Federal Ministries and Divisions on constitutional, legislative, and regulatory matters. This includes interpretation of laws, constitutional provisions, and statutory instruments to support sound governance. Where required, legal guidance is also extended to Provincial Governments on issues involving federal jurisdiction or shared legal interest.
A central function of the Law & Justice Division is the drafting, examination, and vetting of all legislative instruments placed before Parliament. This includes Bills, Ordinances, Rules, Regulations, and Executive Orders. Each instrument is reviewed to ensure constitutional compliance, legal clarity, and precise legislative language.
The Division plays a critical role in reviewing and finalizing international treaties, agreements, and conventions to which Pakistan is a signatory. These instruments are carefully assessed to ensure consistency with domestic laws and constitutional principles, while safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests and international obligations.
